What is it all about?
I have taught Creative Writing for several years with MK Adult Education and also for the MK Film Network. Beginners and Improvers in novel writing, short stories and scriptwriting.
The message I constantly hear is that once the classes end the motivation quickly disappears.
I want the Monthly Writers Workshop to fill a gap and offer ongoing support and encouragement.
What will we do?
The first part of the evening will be tuition. You’ll need pen and paper and be prepared to give your creativity a workout. Each month the session will focus on a different aspect of writing. We might work on dialogue or look at the importance of openings or character building. There are so many elements to learn and explore and practice. There will be an opportunity to put forward your own view as to what you want covered.
In he second part you can have a short break with a caffeine hit, a cake and a chat with fellow writers.
Finally, two or three writers will read out an extract of their work and everyone else will offer supportive, constructive feedback. We all learn how we can improve by listening to our peers. Receiving, and just as importantly, giving feedback, is all part of being a writer.
What will it cost?
Each monthly session costs £8 including the cake and drink. If you are a member of Arts Central you only pay £7. You can become a member of Arts Central by going to their MeetUp and paying £10 which gives you access to the vast range of events and resources they have going on throughout the year.
Location and parking
The workshop takes place in the boardroom at Arts Central which is on the second floor of Station House. The entrance is next to Subway and free parking is available.
The car park is to the right of the railway station (looking at the entrance) behind the multi-storey.
